Still in Hospital...

Hello Folks,

Nick is still in hospital and his counts were still down yesterday. His temperature keeps spiking so he is on antibiotics.

I did not see Nick yesterday I took a day off to spend some uninterrupted time with the boys and we had a lovely day playing, all that said I did decide to have a very early night myself and was in bed by 6.45 and I slept straight through until my early morning wake up call from Oscar at 5 a.m.

I will blog later once I have manged to speak to nick and therefore will be able to update you all better x

Update

Hello all

It's been a busy week visiting Nick and a very trying week with the boys... sometimes it just happens like that!

Nick is doing ok he is holding his own he has had to have two lots of blood on Wednesday and yesterday his temperature spiked so he was put onto antibiotics and just as I was leaving he was due to have some platelets. His counts are down and he is neutrophenic and very tired.

He was very cross yesterday that he was not able to eat his tea that was brought down from the restaurant for him - he is now of the staff menu he has been in there that long. He woke up and very sick which really annoyed him as he only took one mouthful of his curry...oops! so for tea it ended up being jelly and a fruit pot that I took up for him.

I will update the sight later after today's visits. x

Back in Hospital

Hello All

I just wanted to let you know that Nick is not ignoring your texts and emails but he went back into hospital yesterday.

He was very pale and struggling to do simple things that he can normally do, it was nice to have him home if only for one night.

There is some concern over his kidneys not cleaning the toxins out fast enough so for now he is hooked up to fluids until today when more investigations will be done.

Will blog later x

I'm home... for a few days

Hi all,

Well - as you will have read from Lynn's previous blog, my treatment is now over ;)
I've been allowed home for a few days - well until Tuesday anyway! I have to go back daily for some injections and then in Tuesday morning to check my blood count. As my body is due to crash with my white cells dropping they will check on Tuesday morning to see if I need to stay in or come home again until Thursday... but we'll see.

But - I'll enjoy my time at home before I have to go back in and then when my white cells are fine I'll be coming home... FOR GOOD!

Then it's a scan to make sure the tumor has gone and then back to some normality... family life, work, etc...

Catch up soon all,

Nick

Final Day of Chemo Over - Yippee

Hello Folks,

Well that is it it's all over...well the chemo medication anyway Nick needs to now recover from this last session which will probably take about 7-10 days (the sickness started mid week and he will probably be neutrophenic with 3/4 days) then the doctors have told him he will be having a scan in approx 3/4 weeks.

We still have lots of appointments to attend and also a lot of hard work ahead of us to build Nick's strength up but I know he can do it :) he is one amazing husband and I am very proud of him.

The blog does not end here I will update it with how Nick and I are managing to adjust to life again with the boys and family life and upcoming appointments and of course most importantly the results.

Speak soon x

Final Cycle - Day 3

Hello All,

Nick is doing really well whilst he was home for a week I fed him up as much as he would eat ready for this week where he will not eat much. A big thank you to Keith for Friday nights Ellies it brought me so much pleasure to see Nick enjoying a meal and Keith you looked like you were enjoying yours too ;)

Nick has been rigged up to his chemo for most of the last two days but today should not be as hectic for him and the nurses. He has not slept much but like I said to him yesterday he can just pull the curtain around him and close his eyes during the day.

Nick has already had to have two lots of blood to top him up so hopefully that will see him through this cycle :)

Will post again later x

Last cycle of chemo

Well... the time has finally come for me to go back in to hospital this evening ready for tomorrow morning when I start my final 5 days of chemo - including a final spinal chemo session on Friday.
The only downside is after having such a wonderful week at home with Lynn and the boys - feeling like a family again, I'm going to be gone again for a few weeks which is quite upsetting for me.

Lynn has done a wonderful job of keeping me well fed, so hopefully I've put on a few pounds as I'll not be eating much hospital food as it's SO BAD! So I'll end up losing weight again.

I'm quite excited about getting on with the final treatment - get the recovery period out of the way and then coming home for good.

Of course - I still need to have the scans at the end of the treatment to make sure the chemo has worked... which I'm sure it will have.

Then it's a case of getting my strength and energy levels built up again so I can get back to normal life... being able to throw the kids around, back to work, etc... followed by a damn big party to celebrate beating cancer!

It's been quite a journey with a lot of ups and downs - but the end is in sight and can't wait to get back to normal family life!

See you when I get out of hospital folks and thanks for your support through all this - especially my wonderful wife, Lynn-Marie. You need a medal lady!

Nick

P.S. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all you Mothers out there!

Good Times

Hello All

I've been busy spending time with a very good friend Tina who visited from Aberdeen last week some much needed girlie time and lots of talking :) Thank you Tina for making the journey to see us we are all missing you Isaac woke up this morning and came downstairs saying Eisha the boys are missing her dearly they are well and truly smitten.

Also my lovely husband ended up coming home on Friday because he had to have his central line taken out due to it causing his high temperatures it had an infection in it so Nick decided to have a week off from treatment, he goes back in on Friday to have a new central line put back in and then will be in from Sunday evening to restart his final cycle of chemo.

Bring it on the end is in sight.....

Bye for now x

Disappointment Over

Hello All

Nick is doing really well considering that he was very disappointed that he did not make it home at the weekend for a weeks rest before his next cycle of chemo...he is still running a very high temperature and the doctors have started him on a third antibiotic to try and control whatever infection is keeping his temperature high.

He has read a National Geographic from cover to cover for the first time since November so that is some good news that he can now focus with his eye all be it that one eye is still fuzzy with vision.

Right time to take the boys to Day care then a mad clean up for a very dear friend that is visiting from Aberdeen :)
